The Curl Stands Alone

Simone's single curl has quickly become her signature. People come by from far and wide to comment and question her coiffure. So, to put it in perspective...

FROM THE FRONT...

AND FROM THE BACK...

AND FROM THE SIDE...

We know that soon her curl will be gone along with the rest of the thick black hair she was born with. Curiously, her new hair appears much lighter--possibly blonde or light brown. Her eyes too have not changed color yet, so she may be full of surprises. Stay tuned...

The Blossoms Are Here

This past weekend was the Cherry Blossom Festival in DC. Tony's dad came for one last visit before he heads off. Despite the chilly weather, most of the trees had bloomed and the crowds were enormous. But, as usual the blossoms did not disappoint.

Simone's first metro ride!

Stopping to smell the tulips... Simone was fascinated by the grass. She had never sat in it before.

HAPPY EASTER!

We had a great first EASTER with Simone. The air was cool but the sunshine was bright. After Mass, we went for brunch at The Restaurant at Patowmack Farm -- an organic restaurant that uses only fresh, local ingredients; a MUST try for those who yet haven't! Simone was perfectly behaved throughout church and brunch, and napped with daddy in the backseat on the way home.

Smelling the flowers at church.

Simone's first
Easter basket!

At the restaurant...

Food was outstanding, our favorite course was the salad, made to look like a bird's nest. Almost too pretty to eat, but delicious!

Simone had her pears, her favorite....

The biggest hit of the day was Simone's single, cupie-doll curl ( pretty much the only hair she has left). HOW CUTE!

Daddy's Birthday

In March, we celebrated Tony's birthday--a sunny, warm Saturday -- by going downtown to Eastern Market with a stop at the Einstein statue. Simone LOVES her stylish pink sunglasses, and leaves them on without a fuss. In fact, when we took them off she would blink her eyes really fast and them keep them closed until we put the glasses back on.

In February, we introduced Simone to her exersaucer. She loved it from the start. At first she lasted only a few minutes, but now she will play in it by herself for nearly an hour.

Also in January, we took a trip to Ohio to visit Tony's dad. Simone was a trooper, and slept for nearly the entire 5 1/2 drive -- both ways!

Tony stayed home with Simone during January and had lots of bonding time.

Watch this space...

Just before Christmas when this photo was taken, Tony got word from the Navy that he would be mobilized for a year to Iraq. Three months and three sets of orders later, we are quickly drawing down to the day he sets off for Afghanistan. So, we've decided to use this blog to help Tony--as well as family and friends--watch Simone grow even when he can't be here. Simone has been lucky enough to enjoy lots of time with Tony over the last few months, and has become quite the little daddy's girl.
Here's a peek at what she's been up to...
